Kozhikode: The musical water fountain at Mananchira was once the most attractive part of the Ansari Children’s Park where people used to throng just to watch it.
However, it stopped working nearly two decades ago and the authorities have not repaired it. The premises are now a breeding ground for creepers and shrubs.
The fountain was fixed in 1996, but it stopped working after two years. Though the corporation is spending huge amounts for maintaining the park, the fountain has been forgotten. When contacted, Mayor A.K. Premajam said that she had no idea about it and added that she would look into it soon.
However, Public Works standing committee chairman M. Mohanan told DC that maintaining the musical fountain was difficult.
“The knobs of the fountain get damaged due to the flowers and leaves falling over it. So we have told the engineering department to keep it as a normal water fountain. But they are yet to take any action on that,” he added.
