Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday asked TRS public representatives to be honest, responsive to people’s grievances and asked them to read books to understand society and human values.
While intervening in the guest lecture by poet and Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister’s Office Deshapati Srinivas on the subject ‘Public Representatives-Human Values’, Mr Rao said it would be better for all the public representatives to keep away from greed and corruption as there is a feeling in society that if one is elected as MLA he should at least earn crores of rupees every year.
The Chief Minister said those elected to Assembly and Council should keep in mind that they are the first public representatives elected in Telangana state which history is going to record.
Mr Rao gave his own experience as a first time MLA in 1985 after a defeat in the 1983 polls. He said, he took Rs 10,000 from a well wisher as a loan, and when that man came to him after a year and asked for the amount he could not arrange it immediately. “That well wisher asked me what sort of a MLA was I that I was unable to arrange a paltry sum,” the CM added amidst laughter.
He wished TRS would win again in 2019 elections, provided all public representatives struggle hard to solve the people’s grievances.
He said it is time for the public representatives to improve the image of a leader in society, since the credibility is at stake. Complementing Mr Deshapati Srinivas for reciting the real
Telangana poetry, the CM said public representatives should inculcate the habit reading books to know human values in society.
“Many of you may not be aware, but I have been a voracious reader since my childhood. I loved to read books on different subjects. You may not believe it, but I must have read about 80,000 books so far,” Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said. I used to carry big bundles of books with me on tours more than my own luggage. I visited several temples in the country. I think no one must have visited as many temples as I have,” Mr Rao said.
