Telangana pays ex gratia for encroached land too

Officials issued orders for payment to encroachers towards refund of regularisation fees

Hyderabad: Telangana revenue officials do not seem to have learnt any lessons from the mistakes they have committed earlier over protecting valuable government lands in the city from encroachments. They continue to repeat the same mistakes with taking over of prime government land belonging to ENT Hospital in Koti measuring 3,831 sq. yards, which now costs several crores of rupees.

After years of legal battle, the government could successfully take over this prime land from encroachers recently. Shockingly, officials issued orders for payment of Rs 1 crore to encroachers towards refund of regularisation fees which they had never paid in the first place in 2009. The government recently cancelled these regularisation orders, but asked officials to pay nearly Rs 1 crore to encroachers to take over the land.

While officials prepared cheques for disbursal, it was found that the encroachers had only submitted applications in 2009 and not paid any fees to the government.
Revenue principal secretary B.R. Meena issued orders (GO Ms No. 40, dated April 15, 2015) directing Hyderabad collector “to return the amount of Rs 96,62,757 paid by A. Venkatesh, A. Ramesh and A. Krishna (applicants), all are sons of A. Balram in the matter to them/their legal heirs and reclaim the land and hand it over to ENT Hospital.”
