AP government to probe graft in Jalayagnam project

TD alleged that crores of rupees were misused in this scheme
Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam government has decided to expose the “misdeeds” of the previous Congress government “one after the other.” The government has asked the irrigation department to submit a report on Congress’ Jalayagnam programme. Branding the Jalayagnam project as Dhanayagnam (money making body), the TD alleged that crores of rupees were misused in this scheme and some Congress leaders and contractors made a killing.
In its latest meeting, the Cabinet sub-committee discussed the scheme and asked the concerned officials to submit a report. The committee sought a report on how much money was given to the contractors as mobilisation advances and what work was done by them. The government believes that some contractors did not carry out works worth the mobilisation advances taken by them.
