Mysuru rape case: Police chief promises transparent probe

He denied that Mysuru police was facing any pressure regarding this case

Mysuru: The newly appointed Police Commissioner of Mysuru, B. Dayanand, has assured that the investigation of dowry harassment and rape case filed by a former IAS officer’s daughter will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

He said this while interacting with reporters after taking charge as 17th Police Commissioner of the city on Wednesday. When asked why Mysuru police had neither traced nor arrested Prabudhdha Harsha Murthy, the main accused, even two weeks after the case was filed, the Commissioner said, “I would first need to study the case. Justice will be done.”

He denied that Mysuru police was facing any pressure regarding this case. On a lighter note he quipped that his BP remains constant at 120/80 under any sort of pressure, be it at work or any other situation.

When asked of his priorities for the city, he said he would focus on basic policing and visible policing. He denied rumours that he was not keen to take up the Mysuru posting. He said, “I have not hesitated or showed reluctance to work in any part of the State. I have worked in Belagavi to Kolar and Dakshina Kannada district. But I had not got an opportunity to work in Mysuru, except for a short-term training at Karnataka Police Academy here. I am happy to work here.”

The Commissioner said he would lay emphasis on implementing latest technology for policing the city. He said it would help fill the gap of shortage of personnel and speed up work. The 48-year-old 1994 batch IPS officer had earlier served as IGP and Additional Commissioner for Police, Traffic and Security in Bengaluru.
