Rahul Gandhi’s land recee on train

Congress has vowed to oppose amendments to the land acquisition Bill by all means

New Delhi: After raising the issue of crop loss following unseasonal rains in the Lok Sabha, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday boarded a train for Punjab to see the condition of farmers “with my own eyes”. He was seen sitting in a general compartment of a train when he boarded the Sachkhand Express at New Delhi railway station.

Mr Gandhi has gone to Ambala, which is a border town in Haryana adjoining Punjab. “I have been told that the situation is very bad. So, I want to see it with my own eyes. I am going to Punjab. I had also stated in my speech in Lok Sabha that those who provide grains to the country, food to the country, from them their land is being snatched. This is wrong and we will counter it,” Mr Gandhi told reporters at New Delhi station.

The Congress has vowed to oppose the amendments to the land acquisition Bill by all means. Mr Gandhi had also visited places in western Uttar Pradesh after which the UPA government brought the land Bill. The Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Shakeel Ahmed, who is AICC in-charge of Punjab accompanied Mr Gandhi in the train.
