Plea against Uttama Villain dismissed

This court is not able to find any merit in the petition, says Justice T. Raja
Chennai: The Madras High court dismissed on Monday a petition which sought to restrain the producer and director of the Tamil film, Uttama Villain, starring Kamal Haasan, from releasing the movie on May 1 or any other subsequent dates all over the world in any form. “This court is not able to find any merit in the petition,” said Justice T. Raja, while dismissing the petition filed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Tamil Nadu.
According to the petitioner, Hindu religion, as a whole, believes that God had taken avatars in order to establish dharma over adharma. One such avatar was Varaha. Varaha was the avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu in the form of a boar. At the relevant point of time, people on earth did not live in harmony with each other or with nature, using devastating weapons. The goddess Bhudevi (earth) and sages on the earth prayed to Lord Vishnu to protect the earth.
Meanwhile, demon Hiranyaksha, unmindful of the violence, wanted to become more powerful and performed severe penances, praying to Lord Brahma for the boon that he should not be defeated by any man, god or animal. He listed the names of animals which should not defeat him. However, he forgot to mention the boar in this list.
After the boon was granted, Hiranyaksha started tormenting people of the earth. When he stole Bhudevi and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as a gigantic boar (varaha) to rescue her as the boar could pierce the earth. Varaha slew the demon and retrieved the earth from the ocean, lifting it on his tusks and restoring Bhudevi to her place in the universe.
There were temples for Varaha and Hindus worshipped Varaha, performing poojas, ceremonies, festivals, etc. While so, the film, in one of the songs describing the various avatars of God, Kamal Haasan himself being the lyricist and singer, deliberately and intentionally criticised Lord Vishnu for proclaiming himself shamelessly as a pig/boar. This not only disparaged, belittled, demonised, deprecated, cast aspersions on the almighty Vishnu, but also defamed, insulted and maligned the unassailable faith and belief of the Hindus.
Such an attempt gives room to other faiths to create a divide and disrupt peace in society, the petitioner added, and sought a direction to the producer and director to remove derogatory and objectionable words from the song.
