Dhoni case: Karnataka High Court stays lower court order

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed the proceedings by a lower court against Mr Aroon Purie, Chairman and Editor in Chief - India Today Group.

The Ninth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court had issued summons to Mr Poorie, Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni and others to personally appear before it in a case pertaining to a photoshopped image of Dhoni as ‘Lord Vishnu’ that was published in the publishing house’s business magazine.

Activist Jayakumar Hiremath had filed the case, alleging that the image hurt the religious sentiments. The complaint had been filed under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code - deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reli­gious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reli­gious beliefs.
