Attending the meeting indicates end of the factional feud in the state Congress
Chennai: In a show of unity, TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan and former Union minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday attended the consultation meeting on Dr B.R. Ambedkar birth centenary celebrations at Satyamurthy Bhavan.Chidambaram attending the meeting indicates end of the factional feud in the state Congress. The warring factions of Chidambaram and Elangovan had reached a truce on April 17 when the former Union minister’s supporter called on the TNCC chief to end verbal attacks on their leader.
But the absence of Chidambaram and his son Karti at the third state executive meeting convened by Elangovan last Tuesday triggered speculation of continuing factional feuds. However, Chidambaram loyalists were present in strength at the executive meet.
On Sunday’s meeting, a senior Congress leader said a discussion was held on how to hold a year-long birth anniversary celebration of Ambedkar in all the districts. DMDK chief Vijayakanth met Elangovan and Chidambaram at the TNCC headquarters on Sunday. The TNCC chief extended his party’s support to him and assured to depute a leader to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to raise issues concerning the state.
