Pregnant woman runs for Mission Kakatiya

A video of the run would be sent to the Guinness Book for an entry

KARIMNAGAR: A 42-year-old woman in the ninth month of her pregnancy completed a 5-km run and secured a place in the local record books.

Kamarapu Lakshmi, who is expecting her baby soon, ran the distance in 30 minutes and 22 minutes at the Dr B.R. Ambedekar Stadium here on Sunday. Her feat was entered in the Telangana Book of Records, and she has sent an entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ms Lakshmi said she ran in support of Mission Kakatiya, the Telangana state government’s effort to desilt all water bodies in the state. She completed the run under the guidance of her husband and athlete, K. Ravinder.

She began her run at 6.30 am and reached the target at 7 am in the presence of doctors, officials from sports bodies and representatives of the Telangana Book of Records.

A video of the run would be sent to the Guinness Book for an entry. She said she had easily given birth to her first child after running a similar distance in 2013.

Two months ago and seven-months pregnant, Ms Lakshmi completed a 1-km run on March 8, International Women’s Day, to create awareness about the benefits of running and walking among pregnant women.
