Director Kunal Deshmukh safe after Nepal earthquake

The actor was attending a close friend's wedding two days before the devastating quake

Mumbai: Bollywood director Kunal Deshmukh, who was in Kathmandu when a powerful earthquake rocked Nepal and neighbouring places yesterday, is safe and waiting to return.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt took to twitter to inform that he spoke to the ‘Jannat’ director, who assured him that he was fine.

According to reports the director flew to Nepal two days before the earthquake to attend the wedding of a close friends. He along with the rest of the guests were put up at Gorkhana Forest Resort, which is 10 kms away from Kathmandu’s city centre. The hotel was reportedly evacuated and the guests spent Saturday night on the 18-hole golf course.

"Just talked to Kunal and Sonali. They are both sitting on the Kathmandu runway waiting for an aircraft to carry them back home," Bhatt posted on twitter.

Deshmukh, who has directed films like "Raja Natwarlal", "Jannat 2", and "Tum Mile", apparently told Bhatt that the people of Nepal are doing their best to help them.

"The people of Nepal are doing everything possible to help us', he said as the ground below his feet shook!," Bhatt tweeted.

Emraan Hashmi who has acted in all the films directed by Kunal Deshmuk also tweeted about his safety. He also posted some pictures of the airport in Nepal which Kunal sent him.
