Never miss a tweet

Twitter has introduced Highlights section which notifies users twice a day on their smartphones
Twitter is going the distance to make sure you rarely miss a tweet, by rolling out a Highlights section, which notifies users twice a day on their smartphones about content they may have missed.
English-speaking users can turn on the feature, available only on Android for now, by going to the app’s settings, selecting their account name, and checking off the Highlights box in the mobile notifications area. Once that’s done, users will start receiving Highlights notifications. Selecting on one will take them back to the Twitter app, which will show cards with content curated based on various factors such as Tweets from people you follow, trending topics, and people trending among those you follow. Swiping through the cards eventually takes you back to your main Twitter timeline.
While Highlights, to an extent, resembles another feature Twitter introduced to iOS and Android users earlier this year, called “While You Were Away,” the two aren’t similar in function. While You Were Away recaps content you missed since you last opened the app, but may still want to see and looks just like your timeline. How often it shows up depends on how frequently you check Twitter.
But the reason for rolling out both Highlights and While You Were Away is for primarily keeping users, who don’t fire up the Twitter app several times a day, engaged more often. Highlights also marks the latest in a slew of Twitter product updates, tweaks and releases over the last six months, from the ability to group message to a busier homepage for users without an account.
While some of those, like the crackdown on harassment, have been welcome, others feel part of a very concerted effort on Twitter’s part to show the company’s progress.
