NHRC slams Andhra Pradesh for not ordering probe into killing of woodcutters

Team ordered preservation of wireless communication between police and forest officials

Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission on Thursday pulled up the Andhra Pradesh government for not ordering a magisterial probe and for not furnishing details it had sought regarding the encounter of 20 woodcutters at Seshachalam on April 7.

A bench comprising commission’s chairman Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and members Justice Cyriac Joseph, Justice D. Murugesan and S.C. Sinha, while dealing with complaints on the encounter, also decided to send its own team to the spot within a week and ordered for preservation of wireless communication between the police and forest officials on the day.
