65 year old attacked, robbed of jewels

Police suspect that the attack could have been carried out by known persons
Chennai: In a daring attempt in Guindy, a 65-year-old woman was robbed of her jewellery worth eight sovereigns and cash by a masked duo during the early hours of Thursday. The sexagenarian, Annapurna, was staying alone on the ground floor while her daughter, Shruthi and her family stayed on the first floor of the residence in upmarket, Gulmohar Avenue off Velachery Main Road. Shruthi works as a legal adviser with a leading corporate firm in the city and was unaware of the incident until dawn, police said.
Police sources said that Annapurna was woken up by the creaking noise of her front door. “She saw two men forcing open the front door and sneaking into it,” a police officer said. The duo attacked her on her head when she tried to raise an alarm. As she swooned to the ground, the duo removed her gold chain, bangles, ear rings and '15,000 from the steel almirah.
Her daughter, Shruthi and her family learnt about the incident only during daybreak when they checked on the aged woman. She was moved to a private hospital in Guindy.
Police personnel rushed to the scene on information. Police suspect that the attack could have been carried out by known persons. “The incident happened around 4 am.
As Annapoorna is aged, she couldn’t exactly remember what happened,” a senior police officer said, adding
“The duo exactly seemed to know that the senior citizen would be sleeping alone on the ground floor. The intruders must be known to the family members.” Police ruled out rumours about the duo having drugged the dog raised by the family.
