World's powerful passports: India ranks 48th

Entering into another country without a valid visa is impossible

Citizens of Great Britain are the luckiest of the lot—they enjoy the widest range of visa-free travel in the world with almost 174 countries in the list. Citizens of Sweden, Finland, Germany and UK presently hold the world’s powerful passports.

According to Telegraph, GoEuro has listed and rated 51 nations, which gives the citizens the power to travel to different destinations without any visa and by just showing their respective travel documents. ‘The passports of five different countries were found to entitle holders to visa-free entry into 174 other states. As a tie-breaker, it rated those countries where the cost of a new passport is cheapest, higher. Consequently, Sweden - where a passport costs £28 - came top, ahead of Finland, Germany, the UK - where its costs £73 - and the US,’ stated the Telegraph.

Denmark, Canada, Spain, Belgium and The Netherlands are placed in the top 10, while Japan and Singapore rated in the next 10. Turkish passports are one of the most expensive with £166 to its making. While Lithuanian, Mexican, Australian and Swiss passports cost around £100, India, Qatar, UAE, Iraq and Bulgaria citizens can obtain a passport in less than £20.

You may wonder why these passports cost ridiculously high. Well, the Norwegian passport features UV protection (the picture in the passport changes under UV light) against counterfeiting, while the Finnish passport features a walking moose when the passport is used as a flipbook.
