Regional Science Centre to build science centre at Kottayam

Four galleries will be part of Science City project

KOZHIKODE: The Regional Science Centre (RSC) and Planetarium, Kozhikode will set up a science centre in the ambitious Rs 120-crore Kerala Science City project, coming up at Kuruvilangad near Kottayam.

The RSC will set up four science galleries in the science centre. The government has appointed Regional Science Centre and Planetarium Director V.S Ramachandran as the Project Director. The civil works for the centre has already begun.

Out of the proposed 35 acres of land for the Science City, around two acres will be given for the development of the centre which is coming up at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Project Director V.S Ramachandran said that the galleries would include Fun Science (which deals with subjects like mathematics, biology, chemistry etc), Marine Biology, Mirror Magic and a fourth one which is yet to be finalised.

“The science centre will have the most modern facilities and models which convey various science phenomena in a very simple way. The galleries will be set up at different centres of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) including Kozhikode,” he said.

The Science centre will be handed over to the state government and it will be responsible for operating and maintaining it. The State Government will recruit the required staff and the recurring expenditure including the salary component will be completely borne by the State Government.
