Former PM H.D. Deve Gowda adds a new angle to trifurcation

Trifurcation decision cannot be taken till June 15 says H.D. Deve Gowda
Bengaluru: Wondering what the state government wanted to achieve by passing a bill to trifurcate BBMP on April 20 by calling an emergency legislature session, former prime minister Mr H.D. Deve Gowda said the trifurcation decision cannot be taken till June 15.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Gowda quoted the government submission before the single judge, where the state said it had extended time for the three member committee on dividing BBMP till June 15 and requested the court to postpone polls by a month.“When the government is getting the final report only on June 15, how can it divide BBMP on April 20 itself? I am not sure why the emergency session has been convened. Since the final report on trifurcation is not ready, will the government get an endorsement for dissolving BBMP? I don't think it needs Legislature consent,'' he said.
Stating that as CM in 1997, he had faced a similar situation when most MLAs opposed the election, mr Gowda said, “We went ahead with the elections and won it too.”
