17 low-floor buses, new bus bay in Kozhikode

Minister for urban affairs Manjalamkuzhi Ali would flag off the buses at 5 pm

Kozhikode: A new fleet of 17 low-floor buses, all set to operate in the city, would revolutionise the comforts of intracity passengers, believe the KSRTC office bearers.

Kozhikode KSRTC zonal manager Muhammed Safarulla said the launch of the first batch of seven low-floor buses would be conducted on April 24 at the busbay of the newly-constructed KSRTC bus terminal.

Minister for urban affairs Manjalamkuzhi Ali would flag off the buses at 5 pm. He hoped the bus bay would also be opened for the KSRTC from Thursday.

“The building is yet to finish but we hope the bus bay is almost operational,” he told DC. Transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has also assured that the bus terminal would be open within a month.

The Kozhikode cluster of the KSRTC which consists of Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts will get 100 low-floor buses out of which 30 are AC buses of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Around fifty buses will operate in the district alone and moves are afoot to replace the ordinary buses plying to prominent destinations like Karippur international airport, Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Technology and Calicut University with AC low-floor Volvo buses.
