Movie review 'Melody': A new-age rhythm of love

The film is a sensibly made love story emphasizing on new-age relationship

Director: Nanjunda Krishna

Cast: Rajesh Krishnan, Karthika Menon, Chetan Gandharva

Rating: 3 stars

After Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neene which made a melodious mark, the duo, director Nanjunda and composer L N Shashtri, are back with a sensibly made love story emphasizing on new-age relationship. In spite of the film missing few ‘notes’, it is a good watch for its honest effort backed with soothing music. Rajesh Krishnan who makes a comeback as an actor after Gaalipata plays the role of a reserved character. When he finally falls in love, he takes the help of his smart friend played by Chetan Gandharva, and the story unfolds.

It ‘technically’ opens up with the protagonist falling for a pretty girl played by Karthika Menon. The love story takes several twists and turns before the couple finally get married. In no time, the lady learns about the successful ‘schemes’ of the protagonist and his close friend, paving way for the other half, which emphasises on the strong pillars of any relationship – the ‘trust.’ The director strikes the perfect chord while dealing with complicated relationships which are usually short-lived ending up in divorce.

With ‘earful’ of good music including the one sung by the composer himself featuring at least ten Kannada singers, musicians and lyricist is the highlight. Like in many cases while attempting a new subject, this one also succumbs to stereotype climax. Will the protagonist who succeeded in marrying his love with the help of his smart friend, be able to hold on to it, on his own with honest efforts? Karthika makes a good debut, Rajesh is apt in playing a shy natured guy, and so does Chetan in bold and smart character. Altogether Melody is watchable which comes along with a soothing package too.
