Karnataka: JD(S) changes mind, to attend special session to discuss BBMP division

Bengaluru: Reneging on its earlier decision, the Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to attend a special session of the State Legislature convened by the state government on Monday to discuss dividing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into three new corporations.

State JD(S) president and former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy told Deccan Chronicle that he had gathered enough material to prove that BBMP would be a disaster for the city. “I will disclose everything on the floor of the Assembly so that the people will understand demerits of BBMP trifurcation,” he said.

Former Prime Minister and JD(S) National President H.D. Deve Gowda on Thursday announced that his party would boycott the special session, but he was later convinced about the importance of party legislators attending the session.

BJP leaders, including its state president Prahlad Joshi, called him on Friday and requested him to join the fight against the government. “Both opposition parties will put up a united fight in the special session on Monday,” he said.
