NTPC enlists vendors for procurement

Company plans to change procurement process by creating a pan-India database of vendors
Hyderabad: NTPC, India’s largest power producer, on Friday said that it has begun enlistment of vendors and contractors for procurement of materials and work contracts, said a senior company official here. “We have to buy a lot of spares and avail services of many agencies for maintaining and operating our power plants.
Every year, we use approximately Rs2,000 crore worth spares and '1,600 crore worth services across all our plants,” said NTPC regional executive director (South) R. Venkateswaran said.
The company, which till now, used to source spares or services from vendors closer to power plants through tenders, plans to change the procurement process by creating a pan-India database of approved vendors. “From now on, tender notices will be sent to only the enlisted agencies. And they can participate in tenders across India,” he added.
