'Dil Dhadakne Do' trailer is top-notch, but what could be the plot of the film? Any guesses?

Mumbai: Zoya Akhtar released the highly awaited trailer of her upcoming film ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ on Wednesday, and that is all what fans and film goers seem to be talking about. The film starring Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar and Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah had created quite a buzz, and now with the trailer out, it’s only got louder. The trailer has crossed over 2 million views since then.
The film’s story revolves around the live of a dysfunctional up-town Punjabi family who decide to go on a cruise to help sort their matters out. In the two-minute trailer, there is only one certain feeling that comes across – they are all ‘unhappy’ with their lives. That being said, the trailer has left fans completely clueless about the plot or story of the film.
While we are certain that ‘DDD’ will live up to all the hype and will indeed become Bollywood’s biggest summer entertainer of the year, there are a few questions that have sprung up over the last two days. The most important being, in a Zoya Akhtar trailer, where all the visuals are breathtaking and performances that get you hooked, what is the story of this film?
Knowing that Zoya Akhtar has made this film, one can expect to see well-rounded characters and a plot that may have a ‘happy ending’. For all the people who have seen 'Zindagi Na Milega Dobara', go back to the trailer again. Now, do you feel that the film had so much more and the trailer at that time gave away nothing? It could be the same for 'Dil Dhadakne Do'.
Here is a list of possibilities of how the characters shape up which may or may not happen in the film.
The Happy Ending
The first possible conclusion is the obvious one. It all ends with them finding new beginnings. Priyanka who plays a wife seeking a divorce, doesn't leave him for her best friend Farhan. In fact, it is Farhan who gets everything going right for the troubled couple. Ranveer who seems very ‘interested’ in Anushka’s character ends up marrying despite all the hurdles. One hurdle evident from the trailer is the girl who Anil and Shefali want him to settle down with. As for the parents, Anil and Shefali, they drop the act and learn to love each other and accept their problems, because let’s face it, it is okay to not be okay.
The Rejects Find Love
On seeing that this family takes ‘crazy’ to a whole new level, Anushka and Farhan ditch the drama and find comfort in each other’s company. Yes, Farhan and Anushka who are not part of the Mehra family bond with each other on the cruise. In the whole journey of understanding and solving the complications of this family, they end up being together.
One Of The Men Is Gay
It is time, for us to talk about sex and sexuality and it would be ‘different’ for a film of this scale to talk about it. While this may come across as something completely absurd, the fact still remains that Ranveer’s character is being bribed (with a plane) into getting married to a girl he has no ‘interest’ in. Doesn't something seem fishy here? Infact, the powerful trailer ends with him saying ' Family mei sab upar upar se baat karte hain, asli baat koi karta he nahi hai ek doosre se'. Is that something to do with choosing your sexual orientation?
The Happy Never After
At the end of the day, it still is a reel life and where we live is called reality. As much as we want to escape a certain situation, we some how find ourselves going back for more (did any of you watch Gone Girl?). That said, Anil and his wife, Priyanka and Rahul could work things out. They deal with tough choices, temptations but still stick to each other.
Always The Groom’s Man, Never The Groom
The cruise, which is organised by Ranveer, has a happy ending for all the other characters, except him. His character of a matchmaker between Farhan and Priyanka and a son trying to make his parents live happily with each other ends up with a broken heart.
Girl Power
Priyanka’s character does get a divorce, because if a marriage is about two people, she too like Deepika Padukone has a ‘choice’. She decides to go back to Farhan Akhtar which leaves Anil shocked and unhappy. Anushka becomes a part of Ranveer's life and she along with Shefali try to make peace between Anil and Priyanka.
The Element of Surprise
We could see a surprise character who swoops in and changes everything. Rahul Bose may be the bad guy creating all the trouble for the Mehra family. It is Pluto who is able to pin down Rahul and expose him. There is a visual in the trailer where Priyanka, Anil and Shefali are on a speed boat all looking tensed. The cool 'Pluto' is right on the front with his eyes till the end of the sea. Are they chasing somone and could that be Rahul Bose?
Zoya Akhtar has written the script along with Reema Kagti. The two have the art of adding several layers to every character that unfolds in the film. Lot of equations among their characters they write are sometimes interrelated to each other. May be with the launch of new songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, one might get a better idea about all the characters. But hey, did 'Senorita' song from 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' tell you anything about Abhay, Hrithik and Farhan?
Looks like the mystery of 'Dil Dhadakne Do' will only unveil on the big screen. Are you excited to get on board with Mehra family on June 5?
