HOW TO: Add a comment to a retweet on Twitter

The new feature is available on Twitter’s web version and the iPhone app

For a long time Twitterati have been waiting for this feature to be introduced. Finally, Twitter has overhauled its ‘quote tweet’ feature to now allow users to add a comment to the original post.

Earlier, quoting a tweet displayed it as a text, however now, similar to the share feature on Facebook, the retweet will be embedded with the original tweet with the user’s comment on it. Also, the new Twitter feature allows a user to add 116-characters of comment in addition to the 140-character limit of the quoted tweet.

Below is a step by step instruction to demonstrate how to use quote Tweet to add your own comments:

From Web:

  • Hover over a Tweet.
  • Click the Retweet icon.
  • A pop-up will show you the Tweet and a comment box.
  • Type your own comments in the Add a comment field.
  • Click the Tweet button.
  • The Tweet will then be shared with your followers as a quote Tweet!

From mobile apps:

  • Tap the Retweet icon.
  • Tap Quote Tweet.
  • Add a comment and tap Tweet.
  • The Tweet will then be shared with your followers as a quote Tweet!
  • The new feature is available on Twitter’s web version and the iPhone app, and will soon be rolled out for Android users as well.

Note: You cannot Retweet your own quote Tweet.
