Cops suspect terror link to Aslam, Zakir

There was also an intelligence alert in January on the movement of Simi in AP

Hyderabad: Police has a strong suspicion that two killers, Aslam Ayub and Zakir Hussain, who were gunned down are members of the banned Simi and were involved in the Choppadandi SBI branch robbery in Karimnagar district last year.

Investigation officers are also probing if the two had any terror plots to Telangana or AP, especially in Vijayawada. Police of both the states issued a high alert on suspicion that a large gang of Simi members lurking in different parts of both AP and Telangana. There was also an intelligence alert in January on the movement of Simi in AP. Police is investigating if the duo had links with the global Islamic terrorist outfit IS.

“As per the latest information, it is strongly suspected that they belong to the banned Students Islamic Movement of India. There is every likelihood that their associates might have taken shelter in different parts of the AP and may indulge in similar attacks,” said AP DGP J.V. Ramudu,

The two are also wanted fugitives who had escaped during the Khandwa jailbreak in Madhya Pradesh in 2013.
