Patna: Authorities in Bihar’s Saran district have ordered a probe after dancers performed inside the jail’s correctional facility "for entertainment of prisoners", according to reports.
According to officials the musical program was organized on Sunday morning, which went on till evening. The prisoners hired the professional dancers who were allowed entry by the jail authorities, the officials said.
Seeking explanation from the jail superintendent Satyendra Kumar Singh over the musical program, the state prison department served show cause notice on Monday. Sources say that IG prison Prem Singh Meena called the district magistrate for a detailed report regarding the incident. The sources said that the state prison department has asked Motihari central jail superintendent to initiate a parallel inquiry into the matter.
“We will take strict action once initial report comes in. This is clear cut violation of the prison manual”, IG Prison Prem Singh Meena said.
The district officials later said that they had received a complaint regarding the musical program being organised inside the Chapra Divisional Jail campus on Sunday and raids were conducted in which around two dozen artists including dancers were taken into custody.
The officials who conducted the raids claimed that there were no women artists in the group. “We had conducted raids inside the jail campus and arrested more than two dozen artists but all of them were males dressed as females”, SDO Sadar Qayum Ansari who was part of the raid team said.
According to the district officials the jail superintendent Satyendra Kumar Singh informed that the program was organized after they had taken verbal permission from the district magistrate.
One of the sources informed that the dance program was actually organised on the orders of an under-trial prisoner Nikesh Rai facing charges for atleast six murders cases.
On Monday, a video footage of the musical went viral which also showed several jail officials enjoying the program, the video footage is also being investigated.
