Kerala Assembly ruckus: Five opposition MLAs who vandalised Speaker's dais suspended

Kochi: Five opposition MLAs, who allegedly vandalised Kerala speaker's dais during budget presentation, were on Monday suspended till the end of Assembly session.

A resolution seeking their suspension was moved by chief minister Oommen Chandy.

The suspended MLAs are - EP Jayarajan, KT Jaleel, V Sivankutty, K Kunjahmed Master and K Ajit.

Kerala finance minister KM Mani on Friday presented the 13th state budget amid ruckus created by opposition parties who are demanding his resignation.

The incident turned violent during the budget presentation when MLAs attempted to stall it. It was reported that a section of them vandalised the Speaker's dais, toppled his chair and flung the mics.

The protest siege of LDF and Yuva Morcha activists outside the assembly also turned violent. The protesters hurled stones at police and they in turn used teargas shells.
