Speaker meets floor leaders to discuss unruly behaviour

‘We hope action will be taken on the erring members’

Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary has convened a floor leaders’ meeting on Monday at 9 am to view the video footage of attacks on legislators, and of a few legislators disrespecting the national anthem during the Governor’s address to the joint legislature on Saturday.

The chairman, deputy chairman and floor leaders of various parties in the Legislative Council had been invited for the meet.

The Speaker on Sunday conceded to the demand raised by Opposition leaders that action should be taken against the errant legislators after viewing the video footage of the House proceedings to which the ruling TRS has also agreed.

While the TRS, MIM and even the BJP have demanded action against members who had shown disrespect to the national anthem by standing on benches, shouting slogans etc., the main Opposition Congress and the TD demanded action against TRS members who attacked their members by trooping into the well of the House.

“We hope action will be taken on the erring members after viewing the video footage in tomorrow’s meet,” said BJP floor leader Dr K. Laxman.

He added that there was also a need for the Speaker to inform floor leaders on Monday how much longer he would take to decide regarding the disqualification petitions of several legislators pending before him for their defections to TRS.

It is doubtful whether Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will attend Monday’s meeting.

Similarly, there is a doubt whether the private agency that was given the contract for shooting the proceedings of the Assembly had recorded the scenes of ruling party legislators attacking TD MLAs.
