Hyderabad: Stressing the need for providing education to women SC Justice V. Gopala Gowda said on Saturday, “If all women are educated we can eradicate illiteracy. Education is particularly important for rural women.”
He was addressing the 15th annual awards function organised by the Justice P.C. Reddi Trust here at the Ravindra Bharathi.
Recalling Pandit Nehru he said, "If you give men education they alone are educated. But if you educate a woman the whole family and community is educated. Education is the fundamental right of every citizen.”
While appreciating the Justice P.C. Reddi Trust for offering scholarships to girls for the past one and half decade, Justice Gowda said, “Woman is a mother, supervisor, manager and counsellor.”
Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta of the Hyderabad HC said, “I have learnt a lot from my mother. My mother taught me the Ramayana.”
Pointing out the difficulties faced by women Justice Sengupta said the government has to recognise the need to provide toilets for women.
Former Andhra Pradesh CJ Justice P.C. Reddi urged the TS government to provide reservations for women in Eamcet. Justice Reddi presented scholarships to 19 poor, meritorious rural female students pursuing law and medicine.
Srikanth of the P.C. Reddi Trust said the trust would raise scholarships from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 from this year.
