Telangana budget session from today, likely to be stormy

We will raise 24 important issues during the budget session, says Congress

Hyderabad: The budget session of Telangana Legislative Assembly commencing on Saturday is expected to be stormy with the opposition keen to put the TRS government on the mat on a host of issues, including farmers' suicides, increasing swine flu deaths and alleged failure to fulfill poll promises. Former minister and senior Congress legislator Ramreddy Venkat Reddy said the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led government has failed to live up to the expectations of the public and also keep up poll promises.

"We will raise 24 important issues during the budget session. Farmer suicides, rampant swine flu, power crisis and shifting of secretariat are among issues the government should give answer to the people of Telangana," Reddy told PTI.

The Congress Legislature Party met here today and chalked out a strategy to corner the government on these issues. A senior leader of Telugu Desam party said their outfit will demand disqualification of some of their legislators who defected to the ruling TRS. Governor E S L Narasimhan will address the joint session of both the houses on the first day, with the Government likely to present its first full-fledged budget on March 11.

Senior Congress leader and MLC Shabbir Ali said out of 101 promises made by the Chief Minister, only three have been implemented, 18 partially and the other 80 are yet to see the light of day. As the Assemblies of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are located in the same campus, police have made elaborate security arrangements.

With sessions of both legislatures of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to be held in parallel, Speakers S Madhusudanachari (Telangana) and Kodela Sivaprasada Rao (AP), held meeting with senior officials of both the governments.
