Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has appointed two Commissions of Inquiry, one to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims and another to study and prepare a comprehensive report on the relative increase of population of Scheduled Tribes in the state and their social and economic backwardness.
The Commission of Inquiry to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in the state under the Commissions of Inquiry Act will be headed by IAS (Retd) G. Sudhir as chairman and senior lecturer (Retd) M.A. Bari as member. Another member will be appointed soon.
The other Commission of Inquiry will be headed by IAS (Retd) S. Chellappa as chairman and IPS (Retd) K. Jagannatha Rao, H.K. Nagu as members. Both commissions will submit their report in six months.
The CM had promised 12 per cent reservations for Muslims and SCs and the government feels that there is a need to constitute a Commission of Inquiry to study the socio-economic and educational conditions of Muslims to enable the formulation of policy.
The Commission of Inquiry to study socio-economic and educational conditions of Muslims will prepare a comprehensive report on the social, educational and economic status of Muslims in the state, obtain information from State and Central government departments, agencies/institutions, collect data and conduct intensive study/survey on the social, educational, economic conditions of the Muslims in Telangana.
It will report on the income levels and educational levels across the state, report on the educational indicators like literacy rate and health indicators, MMR and IMR compared with other sections of the society, percentage of Muslims in employment in the government/quasi government/private sector employment, report on the access of Muslims to banking credit and allied services provided by the government compared with other communities, report on the availability of welfare infrastructure and institutional mechanism for implementation of government welfare schemes in Muslim dominated areas.
The Commission has been asked to consolidate the information and analyse the data gathered and submit a report to within six months, recommending the steps to be taken to remove the impediments in the improvement of the overall social, educational, economic conditions of the Muslim community and to provide for reservation in education and employment to poor deserving Muslims of Telangana.
The Commission on Scheduled Tribes will study and prepare a comprehensive report on the Scheduled Tribes’ population in the state and their social and economic backwardness. It will examine the representations of ‘Valmiki Boya’ and ‘Khaithi Lambada’ communities for their inclusion into ST communities, obtain information from state and central government departments, agencies/institutions, collect data, conduct intensive study/survey on the social, educational, economic conditions of the Scheduled Tribes in Telangana.
