Deadline missed: Hyderabad Metro not to inaugurate on Ugadi

The 8.2-km stretch on Corridor 3 was supposed to be the first one to be inaugurated

Hyderabad: Metro services from Nagole to Mettuguda will not commence from Ugadi, March 21. Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S, Reddy said, “Announc-ements for all corridors will be done by the state government. For now, the March 21 route is not getting started.”

Speaking at a seminar here, the HMR chief said, “A study was conducted by HMR and L&T and it was found that this small stretch would create a lot of problems at Mettuguda. The desired results of customer satisfaction would not be achieved.”

The 8.2-km stretch on Corridor 3 was supposed to be the first one to be inaugurated and the schedule had been set two years back. With the launch being cancelled, the other two dates, for the Miyapur-SR Nagar stretch on Independence Day, and Mettuguda-Begumpet on November 14 are also doubtful. The entire project was to be completed in 2017.

Mr Reddy added, “We have now got clearance for the rail overbridge which makes it possible for us to open a larger stretch of the corridor. However, that will be decided by the government.”
