Rupee down 8 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee lost 8 paise to Rs 61.91 against the dollar in early trade on March 2

Mumbai: The rupee lost 8 paise to Rs 61.91 against the dollar in early trade on March 2 on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the US currency overseas. Sustained demand for the dollar from importers also weighed on the local currency but a higher opening in the domestic equity market limited the rupee's losses, forex dealers said. The rupee had slid 8 paise to end at 61.83 on Friday due to month-end dollar demand from importers and some banks. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 209 points, or 0.71 per cent, at 29,570.50 in early trade on March 2.
