Will never end MNREGA, it's a living example of Congress' failure, says PM Modi

New Delhi: Amidst increasing discontent over the Land Acquisition Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a clear potshot at the Opposition on Friday during a motion of thanks to the President's Address in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking about the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, more popularly known as MNREGA, PM Modi said that it is a proof of the failure of the Congress.

"I will ensure MNREGA is never discontinued. It is proof of your failings. After so many years of being in power, all you were able to deliver is for a poor man to dig ditches a few days a month," he said.
The MNREGA provides unskilled manual labour to every adult for at least 100 days of the year. A flagship scheme by the UPA government, it was introduced in 2006 amidst severe opposition.
