Telangana State to get 1,000 MW solar power

Efforts are on to generate at least 1000 mw of solar power in the next eighteen months
Hyderabad: Efforts are on to generate at least 1000 mw of solar power in the next eighteen months, according to Ch. Raghuma Reddy, chief managing director of TSPDCL.
Tenders have already been in place for 500 MW and another round would be invited for an additional 500 mw soon, he told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration two exhibitions —Electri Expo and Renew Expo here on Thursday.
“The state government would encourage roof top generation in a big way so that in Greater Hyderabad alone, nearly 200 mw of solar power can be generated” he said. On extending solar power to agriculture, he said, “In Telangana, we have 18.54 lakh pump sets. If we want to convert them to solar-run, we need to invest Rs 50,000 crore which is difficult for us at this juncture. But private players can come forward and do it” he suggested.
We have plans to generate 6000 mw from our thermal units and another 4000 mw from NTPC and all of them would materialize in three to four years time, he added.
