New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to N. Vaidyanathan, key accused in the Aavin milk adulteration case. A bench of justices T.S. Thakur and A.K. Goel granted bail after hearing senior counsel Dushyant Dave and counsel Balaji Srinivasan, appearing for the petitioner.
The bench said he would be released on bail on his furnishing a bond for Rs 20,000 with one surety to the satisfaction of the trial court. The bench said he should not tamper with witnesses.
Dave submitted that the petitioner was in the business of operating tanker lorries involved in transporting milk from cooperative unions of various districts in Tamil Nadu to the Aavin depot in Chennai and other places. He alleged that he had been wrongly implicated in the case. He was in jail for over 150 days and the investigation had been completed and chargesheet filed in the case.
He said no case had been made against him and the entire evidence was built on surmises and conjectures, as his driver in collusion with some others was involved in the adulteration.
Additional advocate general for Tamil Nadu, Subramonium Prasad, told the court that the chargesheet had been filed against him and further investigation in respect of some Aavin officials was still going on.
