ALAPPUZHA: The CPI(M) will fight attempts by the fringe religious elements to take control of places f worship in the State, CPI(M) polit bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Sunday.
Briefing newspersons on the discussions held at the party state conference, he said communal forces such as RSS and SDPI are increasingly influencing the temples and mosques and imposing their communal agenda.
“This would seriously impact the secular fabric of Kerala society,” he said. The party will intensify its activities in both temples and mosques to liberate them for believers. The party’s intervention against RSS and SDPI is not anti-Hindu and anti-Muslim, he said.
Admitting the failure of the party in making members in its contributory organisations politically wise, he said that the process of non-politicisation on the campuses is strong these days.
“The youngsters aged 18-25 are largely left-minded. However, they are not being attracted to the party,” he said. The party conference shows that the party has been able to put behind all kinds of factionalism that crippled the party for long, he said.
Mr Balakrishnan pointed out that the delegates who took part in the discussions took up the subject of corruption that has gripped that the Ommen Chandy government.
“The delegates demanded that the party intensify its agitations against the government which is extremely unpopular,” he said. The party would focus on the tribal affairs, issues in the rubber sector and concerns of landless, he said, adding 25 delegates took part in the discussions on Sunday.
