5.4 lakh children given polio drops

Around 6.51 lakh children were to be covered under the immunization drive

Bengaluru: The second round of pulse polio immunization achieved about 83.96 per cent success in the BBMP limits with around 5.47 lakh children below the age of five being administered the drops. Around 6.51 lakh children were to be covered under the immunization drive.

Rotaract Club of Bangalore, Indiranagar (youth wing of the Rotary Club of Bangalore) on Sunday hosted a unique pulse polio immunization awareness drive by organising short puppet shows across various places in the city.

The 15-minute show titled ‘Pandyada Paddakka Aadlu Peddakka’ (Paddakka became dumb) addressed the issue of polio eradication and the need to get immunized. The artistes and performers, along with their puppets, educated the masses about the disease and the criticality of administering polio drops to children below the age of 5 years.

The artistes had set up portable stations across multiple locations in Bangalore to stage the shows. The puppets attracted both children and adults, and this drive saw close to 20,000 children being administered polio drops.
