Power hike plan a ploy, says YSRC

YSRC alleged that the state has projected inflated figures

Hyderabad: The YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh has smelt a rat in the proposed power tariff hike and has demanded that the APERC reject the Discoms’ proposals.

Senior YSR Congress leader Dr M.V. Mysoora Reddy alleged that the state has projected inflated figures and wants to provide benefit to private players by buying power at higher prices. He said the state purchased 12,000 million units at higher prices.

Dr Reddy said, “The Discoms have submitted the ‘Aggregate Revenue Requirements’ to the Electricity Regulatory Commission to increase the power tariff steeply, citing reasons such as losses.”

He alleged, “ONGC and Reliance are making profits and litigation is on. Neither the Discoms nor the state has tried to implead in the case. They are both playing ‘pass-the-buck’ game. The reasons cited in the ARR to hike the tariff are trivial.”

The opposition said that the delay in generation in two power plants Krishnapatnam and Hinduja were mentioned as the reason, which in reality is not true. “The plants are ready. The industrial growth rate was inflated and the purchase of power on short term basis at a higher price was linked to it. We demand an inquiry into all purchases at higher rate as they are not justified,” he added.
