Overhaul on cards for BJP

BJP officially described the loss in Delhi assembly polls as a “collective failure.”

New Delhi: As the Delhi election results started pouring in, BJP functionaries, doing as the Congress does, rushed to shield the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah-Arun Jaitley troika from blame for the humiliating defeat.

Prime Minister Modi and other BJP leaders congratulated the AAP for its victory. While officially the BJP described the loss in Delhi as a “collective failure.” The party’s Darbhanga MP, former cricketer Kirti Azad, minced no words when he said “BJP defeated BJP” and demanded action against the party’s poll strategists.

While the party said it would review the reasons for its loss, a major overhaul of the party’s Delhi unit is on the cards. The BJP top leadership and the RSS have been trying hard for many years to rein in factionalism in the Delhi unit but have failed. The BJP parliamentary board is expected to meet on February 13 to introspect about the results.
