No special status for Telangana

KCR to accept incentive if similar offer is made to AP

Hyderabad: Telangana as a new state is ready to accept a special package if the Centre decides to give a similar one to the Andhra Pradesh government, instead of special category status.

Sources said Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his team who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley and several other Union ministers during their five-day trip to New Delhi, got enough hints that the Centre would only give special incentive or a package to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and a special category status was ruled out since it required consensus of all states.

When contacted, TRS floor leader in the Lok Sabha, A. Jitender Reddy told this correspondent from New Delhi on Monday that they do not see the Centre granting special status category to either Andhra Pradesh or Telangana. Mr Reddy said when Telangana Chief Minister led a delegation to Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, the latter dropped enough hints in this regard.

“The Union Finance Minister almost ruled out special category status to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana but promised special incentives and packages. If both states are treated at par, we do not have any objections,” he said.
