Official stops child marriage, manhandled

The official had gone alone and without informing the local police for any security

Hyderabad: A District Child Welfare Protection official was allegedly attacked when he tried to stop a child marriage at Singareni Colony in Saidabad, on Sunday.

An unidentified group at the marriage caught him and seized his phone. He sustained minor injuries in the scuffle. However, no police complaint was lodged and no case was registered. According to Mohd Imtiaz Raheem, the District Child Welfare Official, following an alert he went to the spot with his team and stopped the child marriage. He spoke to the child’s parents and locals about the effects of child marriage and discussed government schemes.

“When I tried to stop them, a group came towards me and held me. I was alone and almost immobile. They grabbed by mobile phone. When i tried going towards my vehicle, they did not allow me. However, I escaped and with the help of others I got back my phone and bike.” Mr. Imtiaz said.

When contacted, A. Srinivasulu, Inspector Saidabad said, the official had gone alone and without informing the local police for any security However, sources said, the marriage was organised later.
