Hyderabad: Stones were thrown at the car of activist Sunitha Krishnan in Charminar area in Hyderabad after she launched a campaign against rapists who have shared videos of the horrific assaults.

Two separate videos were posted on YouTube by the activist on Thursday and are being shared on WhatsApp. In one of the videos, five men were seen smiling as they took turns to gangrape a woman even as she pleaded to let her go.

Reportedly, the videos are believed to be at least six months old and were discovered by Krishnan, who runs an anti-trafficking NGO named Prajwala in Hyderabad.

The activist posted the video online hoping to start a national campaign to shame the rapists, find them and get them punished.

Sunitha Krishnan, who is herself a rape survivor, tweeted on Friday that her car was stoned in the morning, minutes after she announced her #ShameTheRapistCampaign.

On her Facebook page, Krishnan wrote she was alerted to the horrific video by a young man who received it on WhatsApp.

She further wrote, "If you know of anybody who has received any such videos, inform me at sunitha_2002@yahoo.com."

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Charminar division) K Ashok Chakrawarthy said following a complaint they have registered a case under section 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC and taken up investigation.

Sunitha had parked her vehicle at a college premises near the Charminar bus stop.

A police team visited the spot and found that the window screens of the vehicle were stoned, he said, adding, that they suspect it to be a mischief.

"It is a crowded area and 15 to 20 other vehicles were parked in the place. It is not possible for someone to throw a stone and run away. It seems to be a mischief...we are probing the matter," the ACP said.
