Legal action on Telangana State could have hit many

Any legal action at this stage would only amount to delay in conducting Eamcet
Hyderabad: With the Telangana government decision to conduct it’s own Eamcet, the Andhra Pradesh government is left with little choice.
The Andhra Pradesh government, which had warned of “legal action” against TS for announcing its own Eamcet, decided to soften its stand since any legal action at this stage would only amount to delay in conducting Eamcet besides creating uncertainty among students over the crucial exam.
The AP government’s decision implies that students of the two Telugu-speaking states will have to appear for two Eamcets if they aim for admissions in Medical and Engineering courses in the 15 per cent unreserved quota in both the states.
As per existing admissions procedure, 85 per cent of seats will be offered to locals while the remaining 15 per cent is offered to all under unreserved quota based on merit, irrespective of whether they belong to AP or TS.
The similar seat matrix will be followed this year as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, which stipulates common admissions for both the states for a period of 10 years.
“We tried our best to convince the TS government to agree to a common Eamcet. But they refused to accept our proposal and announced their own Eamcet schedule. We don’t want to trouble students anymore by seeking legal course of action at this stage as it may result in unnecessary trouble for students due to uncertainty, besides delay in conducting the Eamcet,” AP minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.
