Hyderabad police nabs Bahubali leak accused

The police questioned many employees of the company and the production unit

Hyderabad: The police has formally arrested the accused in the Baahubali video leakage case on Saturday. The accused IT manager stole the video at the time of adding visual effects and circulated it. It was an act of revenge as he was dismissed by the company while working on the film’s visual effects, cops said.

The accused, identified as B.V.V.L.N. Varma, 35, is a former employee of Makuta Effects (P) Ltd, and is a resident of Moti Nagar. He belongs to West Godavari district.

CCS officials said Varma had stolen data from his company and had circulated it committing breach of trust, cheating and other offences under the Copy Right Act and IT Act 2008.

Police said that on January 24 Y. Shobu, the producer of Baahubali and the director of ARKA Media (P) Ltd lodged a complaint stating that he was producing the movie and had a tie-up with Makuta Visual Company for editing and visual effects. He said that a former employee of Makuta Effects had uploaded the war related clips of the movie on Facebook and Youtube.

The police questioned many employees of the company and the production unit. It then zeroed in on Varma. He was taken into custody and he confessed to the crime.

Mr C. Ravi Varma, DCP, CCS, said that Varma was working as IT manager for Makuta. He had some disputes with the management and was dismissed. He plotted to damage the reputation of the firm, police said. Varma was produced in court and sent to judicial remand.

Meanwhile, sources said that cops are checking for others accused involved n the case.
