The mega event, since 1975, saw many changes and witnessed records

Mumbai: The ICC World Cup 2015 is the 11th edition of the mega event. Apart from the excitement, fandom and player profiles, there are certain facts about the tournament which the world doesn’t know.

Out of England: England hosted the tournament for three consecutive years till it was taken to India and Pakistan in 1987.

Sixty to 50: The One Day International matches in the World Cup used to be for 60 overs. But the experts were smart to cut the extra 10 overs from 1987.

Youngest player in World Cup: Nitish Kumar from Canada (16 years and 282 days) was the youngest who played in World Cup 2011. Another interesting fact about the player is that his nickname is Tendulkar. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm offbreak bowler.

Oldest player in World Cup: Nolan E Clarke of Netherlands was the oldest player who played in World Cup 1996. He was a right-handed big hitter.

Coloured jerseys: Earlier, ODIs were also played in whites, the coloured jerseys with names on back were introduced in World Cup 1992.

Fastest delivery: Shoaib Akhtar bowled a 100mph to Nick Knight of England in World Cup 2003.

Fastest century: No, he isn’t from the main Test playing nations, but Kevin O’Brien of Ireland stunned the cricketing world smashing a 50-ball 100 against England for a winning cause in World Cup 2011.

Most wickets: Glenn McGrath has 71 wickets from all the World Cups he featured. In the 2007 edition, he picked up 27 wickets which is also a record.

Most runs: The feat belongs to none other than Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He has 2278 runs in six World Cups. He also holds the record of most runs in one World Cup (673 in 2003).
