The accused people purchased second hand Innovas

Hyderabad: A five-member gang was arrested in connection with a burglary at a trader’s house at Tadbund in Bowenpally.

North Zone police arrested the gang which included the victim’s personal driver and a watchman. They had stolen 4 kg gold including 23 gold biscuits and Rs 25 lakh in the last three months from the locked house. The gang members led a lavish life and bought four innova cars, bikes and laptops with the money.

Police said that the gang opened the locked house using the keys and took away the gold and cash three times in November, December, and January before the owners realised it.

“The owner, Mr Ajay Harinath, runs a chain of hotels and other firms abroad. His parents used to live in this house at Tadbund, and gold biscuits and ornaments were kept in this house.

His parents left for the US a few months ago locking the house, while Mr Ajay lived in Banjara Hills,” said the official from North Zone.

The main accused Mohd. Tahsin, 27, who was a driver of the owner for seven years, planned to loot the house along with others.

His brother Mohammed Mohsin Ali, 29, and the watchman, Kadheer, 25, helped him. His friends Sheik Md. Asmathulla also helped him. Traders Nemichand Jain and Akshay Jain helped him to dispose some property.

Police officials said that the driver and watchman were entrusted the house keys since they were old employees and the house needed to be open at different times.

“After the loot, they purchased vehicles and spent money lavishly by travelling different places. Kadeer, who is the watchman, spend 2.3 lakh for his baby’s birthday celebrations,” said North Zone DCP Mr. G. Sudheer Babu.

According to the police, the house owners did not realise about the theft till January. They got doubt after they found the driver and watchman were spending lavishly.

Though police arrested five people, the watchman is still absconding. Traditional gold ornaments weighing about 150 grams were also stolen.
