PM Modi wears colourful Rajasthani turban for Republic Day

Modi had addressed the nation wearing a similar headgear on the Independence Day

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi adorned a colourful Rajasthani bandhani turban at the Republic Day celebrations on Monday, having addressed the nation wearing a similar headgear on the Independence Day.

While he wore a bright-red bandhani turban during his address on Independence Day, the Prime Minister had put on a Rajasthani 'safa' as he took part in the Republic Day celebrations this morning.

Modi was attired in traditional 'bandhgala' while US President Barack Obama, who was the chief guest at the event, was helped by aides into an overcoat soon after he arrived at the venue on a cold and rainy morning.

His wife Michelle arrived wearing a buttoned long black coat with a red scarf tucked-in.

Often praised for his dressing style, Modi had on Sunday worn the traditional kurta pajama, his trademark Nehru vest and a stole as he received Obama at the airport.

Last night, Obama, while raising a toast at the banquet hosted in his honour by President Pranab Mukherjee, said he wanted to wear a 'Modi kurta'.

He also recalled a headline back home which asked who is the new fashion icon other than Michelle Obama and said "I was thinking of wearing a Modi kurta myself."

He appreciated Modi saying he is tough and has a style.
