India, US have reached a breakthrough on the nuclear deal

New Delhi: The ‘chemistry’ between US President and PM Narendra Modi was the high point of their joint press conference, hands down.

After the much-anticipated ‘chai pe charcha’ on Sunday, the two leaders announced a major breakthrough in the nuclear deal.

Obama, on a lighter note said that both leaders compared their sleep patterns.

“We compared how much sleep each of us is getting. Turns out Modi is getting even less sleep than me. That is perhaps because he is new. After you have done it for 6 years, you can get an extra hour.”

The contours of the operationalisation of the nuclear deal, which has been in limbo for the last more than six years, were not immediately available, although President Barack Obama described it as a "breakthrough".

The deal on nuclear cooperation and other areas was clinched between PM Narendra Modi and Obama after discussions spread over three hours at the delegation level as well as one-on-one chat besides a tete-a-tete on the lawns of the Hyderabad House reflecting the warm personal chemistry between the two leaders.
