Suspected ISIS sympathiser sent to 10-day police custody

Police wants to know if anyone else was involved in his ‘plan to join ISIS’

Hyderabad: A local court on Wednesday sent Salman Mohiuddin, who was arrested for allegedly trying to leave the country to join the Middle-East terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, to 10-day police custody.

Cyberabad Police, in its petition, had earlier sought 15-day custody of Salman and told the court that it needed to further probe his alleged ISIS links.

It said the police wanted to know if anyone else was involved in his "plan to join ISIS" and to retrieve information from electronic gadgets seized from him.

After arguments and counter-arguments from the prosecution and defence, the court today allowed the petition of Cyberabad Police and granted it 10-day custody of Salman, who is presently under judicial remand.

The 32-year-old US-returned engineering graduate was arrested on Friday last at the International Airport here when he was on way to Dubai. The police said the Hyderabad resident was planning to go to Syria via Turkey.

Further, he intended to undergo training in Syria and return to indulge in anti-national activities in the country, they claimed. He was arrested under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act.
