Sambar deer attacked with axes in Bhudaraopet village

Forest officials rescue rare animal chased by dogs

Warangal: A Sambar strayed into Bhudaraopet village in Khanapur after it was chased by dogs on Monday morning.

Villagers who got scared on seeing the animal, attacked it with axes and injured it.

However, later on, they informed the police who in turn informed the forest department.

Pakala forest area ranger Musheer and beat officer Mohan reached the village with a veterinary doctor and attended to the injured Sambar deer.

“We got information that a Sambar was found in this village. It might have lost its way from the Pakal forest. The Sambar is a species belonging to deer family found only in India, some parts of China and Southeast Asia.

This Sambar sustained injuries on its leg and body. The doctor treated it and we are shifting it to the Vana Vignana Kendra in Warangal. Such rare animals need to be conserved,” forest range officer Musheer said.
